Noah at Powderhorn

I met Noah the Grom Prince of Powderhorn Resort. And, later an Old Timer inside the bike shop explained with wide hand gestures how he used to ride these trails on a Schwinn with 20-inch wheels. Before mountain biking, downhill, or even BMX…his voice trailed off as his got into the finer details of the resort’s origin story, and tourist, lift-ticket buyers wanted to get on with their runs.

I’m sure Noah will get radder as he gets older, and I looked for the Old Timer after another successful black diamond, roots-and-rocks run with bonus water obstacles.

I wanted to hear more stories about a resort on the Grand Mesa that’s 50 years old, and few people have ever heard of it.

And this for the downhill runs.

Also, checked my goldilocksing of the tire, wheel sizes, and air pressure because Old Timer rode all these trails on a Schwinn with 20-inch wheels.

I was riding Powderhorn on assignment for Dirt Rag and that feature story will run next year in print…’till then, here’s another look at the Grand Mesa and a unique, inspiring #westslope experience. There are lakes up there too, like 300 of them.
